The snow capped peaks of the Pyrenees, clear blue skies and the green luxuriant valley of Val d'Aran are the setting for this beautiful Parador.
This Parador is of recent construction and has been designed in the local style of architecture. The site is the former home of Don Gaspar de Portola whose claim to fame is the discovery of California.
A design feature of the Parador is the steeply sloping roof which prevents a heavy weight of snow accumulating. This results in the bedrooms having 'dormer' windows looking out onto the roof.
The lounges and sitting rooms of the Parador are air conditioned, spacious and tastefully decorated, among which, the Salon Chimenea particularly stands out. The accommodation comprises 38 twin bedrooms, 9 double rooms, 4 suites and 7 duplex rooms, all with Satellite television, telephone and mini bar. Facilities at the Parador include elevator/lift, heating, bar, air conditioned restaurant, internet access, shop, heated swimming pool, sauna, gymnasium, garden, children’s play area, garage and car park. The Parador also has facilities for disabled persons. The restaurants of the Parador group hotels offer a variety of dishes including a selection of local and regional specialities. They also offer a diabetic, vegetarian and gluten free option. Parador de Arties also has conference facilities for up to 150 persons. In Val d'Aran, several villages have old churches built in the Romanic style. The Church in Santa Maria de Arties is particularly worth a visit. In the same village, the old Roman baths are still preserved. There are three local feast days celebrated in this area. On 24 June it is the feast of San Juan in Arties. In the same village on 25 July, the feast of San Jaime is celebrated. The Cattle Fair in nearby Vielha is also a festival not to be missed. For skiers, the Baquira Beret station is four and a half miles away. The nearest airport is approximately 157 kilometers from the Parador. The nearest railway station is approximately 147 kilometers from the Parador. The nearest port is approximately 325 kilometers from the Parador. |
