This Parador is in a majestic castle, with construction commencing in the year 1437. It was the former residence of the Dukes of Feria.
The value of this castle-palace is expressed through a spectacular facade placed in an ideal setting, discovering the monumental surrounds and the natural landscapes of this area. Nine battlement towers guard the regal, grandiose interior which conserves beautiful coffered ceilings, large chests, ironwork, handrails and several other decorative details which belonged to the former palace. The bedrooms which in the past had Hernan Cortes as a guest, are elegant and spacious while the swimming pool and well cared for garden adorn the exterior. Try the regional dishes the dining room has to offer such as: lamb stew, "migas extremenas" (fried breadcrumbs) and "solomillo iberico al queso de los Ibores" (sirloin with cheese). The route of the Duchy of Feria will lead you to villages like Feria, Salvatierra, and Almendralejo while the route of the Templars will bring you to Burguillo del Cerro, Jerez de los Caballeros, and Frenegal de la Sierra. In Zafra visit the Santa Clara Convent, the Big and the Small Squares, and the church of Candelaria. In Almendralejo the Feast of Candelas is held in February. In Fuente de Cantos the Chanfaina Feast is held during the Week of San Juan and in Zafra the Cattle Fair is in the first week of October while in Jerez de los Caballeros the Ham Fair is in the first week of May. In the area surrounding this Parador you have access to many nature and sport activities like swimming, hiking, horse riding or biking. The accommodation in this hotel of the Paradors group is in thirty eight twin bedded rooms, ten rooms with a double bed, one single bedroom and two suites. All the rooms have a private bathroom and also a telephone, television, safe and a mini bar. The Parador has air conditioning. There is a restaurant and bar. Facilities are available to hold business meetings. Pets are not allowed in the luxury hotels in the Spanish Paradores group. Parador de Zafra is in a modernised castle built in 1437. |
